Virat Kohli will be in action for India against Bangladesh in Dubai on Thursday, February 20. During the Champions Trophy 2025 match, which is scheduled to take place at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Kohli will be a key player for Team India, which sits at the No. 1 position in the ICC ODI Team rankings. The 36-year-old right-handed batter is coming into Thursday’s match on the back of scoring 52 runs against England in the third and final ODI of the bilateral home series played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Kohli looked in great touch during the match played on February 12, and he would like to start from where he last left at home. In the Group A match between India and Bangladesh, Kohli will have a chance to create history. Kohli will become the fastest batter in the world to score 14,000 runs in ODI cricket if he scores at least 37 runs in Dubai on Thursday.

The former India captain has 13,963 runs to his name in 297 ODI matches played so far. He is 37 runs from breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s world record of being the fastest to 14,000 runs in ODIs. Tendulkar, who finished his career with 18,426 runs in 463 ODI matches, scored his 14,000 ODI run in the 350th inning of 378th ODI match played against Pakistan in Peshawar on February 6, 2006.

So far, only two batters in the world have scored more than 14,000 runs in ODI cricket. Kohli, who has come out to bat 285 times in 297 ODI matches played so far, will have the chance to join the elite list.

In addition to that, Kohli will also etch his name in history books on Thursday if he scores at least 90 runs. Kohli is India’s leading run scorer in ODIs against Bangladesh. In 16 matches played so far, he has hammered 910 runs with the help of five centuries and three fifties. If he scores 90 more runs, he will become the first Indian to score 1000 runs in 50-over matches against the Bangladeshi team.

If Kohli scores a big century on Thursday, then he will also have a chance to overtake Ricky Ponting and become the third leading run scorer in international cricket. As of now, Kohli has 27,381 runs to his name in 545 matches played across formats, whereas Ponting finished his career with 27,483 runs in 560 matches.
