If you can’t wait for the Terraria 1.4.5 update to land, fellow Steam sandbox RPG Necesse has a big patch of its own on the cards. Incorporating a top-down perspective reminiscent of Stardew Valley with city-building and settlement management aspects akin to Rimworld, the co-op game has earned itself a 94% Steam review score from players. As special thanks to the community for its support in 2025, developer Fair Games has just surprise-dropped a brand-new update along with a Steam sale discount.

New Necesse update The Forgotten Depths, revealed during today’s indie Triple-i showcase, has been immediately shadow dropped and is now playable on Steam. It introduces a fresh biome called the Plains Deep Caves to the sandbox game, taking you even further underground than the initial Plains Caves area. Like other such zones, you’ll seemingly need to find or craft a Deep Ladder Down to access it.

Explore these newfound depths and you’ll encounter more enemy types, loot, and secrets galore – there’s even another boss fight, the Cursed Crone, which appears to involve playing tic tac toe. If you’re playing on an old world, you’ll need to seek out a region you haven’t visited before to find the additions, which include new environmental hazards for deep caves.

The update also includes an economic rework introducing both traders and a task board. All settler shops have been given stock and a limited supply of money that regenerates over time. By hiring a trader, you can set them to automatically sell items on your behalf from a new shipping chest. The task board, meanwhile, allows you to automate explorer expeditions, mining excursions, and fishing trips.

The Necesse Forgotten Depths update is out now. To celebrate, you can buy the game at a 35% discount until Thursday April 24, meaning you’ll pay just $9.74 / £8.44. Fair Games also confirms that it plans the 1.0 full release to arrive in 2025. You can read through the full details courtesy of Fair Games before diving in.
