FragPunk is an incredibly unique take on the tactical shooter genre. The 5v5 combat is immediately reminiscent of Counter-Strike and Valorant, but the characters and their abilities call hero shooters like Overwatch to mind as well. Then you have over 150 Shard Cards you can use to bend any match’s rules to your whim, adding another strategic layer to proceedings. Now that the free-to-play FPS has been on Steam for a few days, it’s already proving incredibly popular, and beating some of its biggest rivals.
Now that the game’s launch weekend is over, it’s amassed an all-time player peak of 113,946 players. That’s impressive for any FPS game, but it also shows how FragPunk is holding steady against the competition.
It even managed to get ahead of fellow free-to-play shooters Delta Force and Overwatch 2 (keep in mind this game is also on Battle.net) over the weekend, but couldn’t hold a candle to some of the stalwarts. Counter-Strike 2 is still at the top of the charts, alongside PUBG and Apex Legends. NetEase Games’ other hero shooter, Marvel Rivals, is still ahead of FragPunk, though, but that game shows absolutely no signs of slowing down months after launch.

Still, FragPunk is doing better than when we first covered the launch. Player numbers and reviews are higher, but the problem of microtransactions remains. FragPunk has nine currencies, two battle passes, and another two memberships, with some of the FragPunk characters even locked behind virtual currencies.
Whether FragPunk stands the test of time remains to be seen, however. 2025 is already stacked with live service forever games, shooters, and megahits, so it all comes down to if it does enough to keep players around. I for one have been playing an ungodly amount of Marvel Rivals, and there’s only so much time in a day to play everything.
Make sure you check out all the FragPunk codes for some freebies, alongside the FragPunk system requirements to make sure your rig is up to the task.
