One of the biggest Nightingale updates since its transformative Realms Rebuilt overhaul is here. The doors to the eponymous Nightingale City have finally swung open, and developer Inflexion Games invites you to help defend its walls from the invading Automaton Queen. Manage to reclaim the streets, and there’s a new tier of weapons and gear up for grabs offering more customization options and powerful bonuses.
Nightingale is continuing its road to recovery after a rocky launch in 2024. The Realms Rebuilt update delivered a more structured campaign, and since then Inflexion has implemented building upgrades, player customization and fashion options, and NPC automation tools. It’s seen the survival game’s recent Steam reviews climb up to 76% positive, with the overall rating now close to escaping the ‘mixed’ designation as it lifts to 67%.
The update that players have been awaiting more than any other since launch, however, is that of Nightingale City, and it’s finally arrived. Long promised, it’s the last bastion of humanity is a sprawling metropolis, but it’s under siege from the Automaton Queen and her Fae armies.
It’s your job, then, to fight across the houses, rooftops, and even the sewer network underneath the city’s three main quadrants in an attempt to wrest back control of the streets. You’ll have to tackle Bound invasions, seal the corrupted portals allowing threats to flood in, and activate the Pale Pylons. Succeed, and you’ll face the giant Automaton Queen herself in battle.
The urban combat brings a very different feel from the more traditionally nature-led environments of Nightingale, as you grapple up to access entryways created by broken walls, leap between buildings, and plunge into flooded sewer tunnels. Of course, you can expect plenty of powerful rewards for your trouble – new tier-five weapons and tools are available to those able to survive the city’s threats.
Tier-five weapons and tools come with new components and recipes to further expand your crafting options. They’re capable of holding two charms to customize them even more. You can use the currency earned in Nightingale City to purchase a fifth tier of fabled charms with powerful customizations such as homing arrows or pistols that instantly reload if you hit with every shot. The weapons also include unique visual elements that can be used in crafting and glamor with the customization table.
While Nightingale City is certainly the main draw of the new update, there’s lots more to look forward to here. Crafting has also been improved, with more options for structure rotation and placement. You can swap between styles quickly while in build mode, and discover more defensive structures in the city. Look forward to some striking glass architecture in the Herbalist tileset, and fresh furniture including the particularly luxurious Regency set.
