Stan Lee: The Final Chapter Trailer OUT
The filmmaker is now turning hundreds of hours of raw footage into a documentary titled Stan Lee: The Final Years. For years, the project was kept under wraps, but Bolerjack has now launched a Kickstarter campaign to complete the film and unveiled a trailer that provides a glimpse into Lee’s exhausting final years. The footage shows the elderly Lee being carted around to comic book signings.
The film shows how Lee’s declining health was taken advantage of by people around him, with profits from his autographs and memorabilia being sold for large amounts. Unfortunately, much of this money didn’t go to Lee or his family, revealing a dark side to the world of fan merchandise.
Bolerjack became a regular part of Stan Lee’s life, following him to comic book conventions and movie premieres while capturing moments at Lee’s Hollywood Hills home. What started as a simple filming project turned into something much more revealing. Bolerjack not only filmed Lee’s career highlights but also saw troubling behaviour from people close to Lee. Along with exposing financial exploitation, the documentary revisits the elder abuse accusations Lee faced in his final years. In 2018, Lee filed a restraining order against his former business partner, Keya Morgan, accusing him of manipulation and abuse. Morgan was arrested after convincing Lee that he was in danger and needed to be moved.
The trailer also shows Max Anderson, Lee’s former road manager. Anderson has denied any wrongdoing regarding his role in Lee’s final years. Despite this, the documentary hints at a darker side of Lee’s final days, including claims of financial ruin.
For the unversed, Bolerjack’s relationship with Lee began over a decade ago when he pitched a reality show idea to the comic icon. After gaining Lee’s trust, Bolerjack became part of Lee’s entourage, travelling with him to conventions. As Lee’s demanding schedule took a toll on his health, Bolerjack tried to advocate for him, suggesting more breaks and helping manage his workload.
