When is the Oblivion Remastered release date? An Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion re-release has been rumored for years now, and given Bethesda’s penchant for repacking Skyrim over the past decade, we’re surprised this hasn’t come sooner. It may not be full remake of the original game, but based on the Oblivion Remastered leaks we’ve seen so far, this is far from a low effort project.
It’s fair to say that Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion established Bethesda as the masters of RPGs, setting a new standard for open world games at the time. Whether you’re returning to Cyrodiil after almost 20 years, or you’re stepping into Oblivion’s massive world for the first time, we’re here to break down all the information about the upcoming re-release, including the release date, leaked details, and more.
Oblivion Remastered release date estimate
Oblivion Remastered is rumored to launch before the end of April, with some sources claiming it could land as early as Monday, April 21, 2025. The leak that confirmed the game’s existence comes from Virtuos’ website, the developers of the remaster.
The leak also confirms the existence of a deluxe edition. This could point towards some of the DLC not being included in the base game, or there may be armor and weapon sets that are exclusive to the deluxe version.
According to Eurogamer, Oblivion Remastered is scheduled to be shadow-dropped next week, launching on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. As Bethesda is owned by Microsoft, the game is all but guaranteed to launch on Game Pass, too. We can only speculate on Oblivion Remastered’s price, but given the game’s lengthy development cycle, we expect it to launch at $69.99 / £59.99, just like Microsoft’s other AAA releases, like Indiana Jones and Black Ops 6.

Oblivion Remastered leak
There were whispers about Oblivion Remastered from as early as 2020, but like with most rumors, it all seemed a bit too good to be true. The rumors began to resurface once again in 2023 thanks to a post on the Elder Scrolls subreddit from an ex-employee at Virtuos.
Over the past few months, talk about Oblivion Remastered started to gain traction, with some journalists suggesting it could launch in the first half of 2025. On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, Mattmo831 on Resetera discovered multiple Oblivion Remastered images hosted on Virtuos’ website with the project name Altar in the URL, confirming the leak from 2023.
Judging by the leaked images, we can assume that Oblivion Remastered uses Unreal Engine 5 to enhance the game’s visuals. The Reddit leak from 2023 states the remastered version is running Unreal Engine 5 alongside the original code, meaning there shouldn’t be many differences between the original and the remaster.
In a side-by-side comparison with the original game and the leaked screenshots, it looks like Virtuos has adjusted the color grading to give Oblivion a warmer look overall. With that said, this could be the result of Unreal Engine 5’s dynamic lighting system.
According to MP1ST, Oblivion Remastered does feature some tweaks to bring aspects of the 2006 smash hit up to modern standards. This includes changes to the HUD to make certain elements clearer for new players, adjustments to the stamina system to make it less punishing, and most importantly, tweaks to the combat that are “inspired by Souls-like games.”
Oblivion Remastered DLC
The leaked screenshots showcase areas from Oblivion’s DLC, which means Oblivion Remastered is likely going to feature all the original DLC, including the Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles expansion packs. This should also include the smaller DLC that adds new locations to the map, as well as the infamous horse armor pack.
One of the leaked images is a low-resolution advertisement for the deluxe edition of Oblivion Remastered, highlighting armor sets. It’s unclear whether these armor sets are from cut content or if they’ve been created specifically for the remastered version.
