How do you start Oblivion Remastered Shivering Isles DLC? The not-so-surprise drop of Oblivion’s Unreal Engine 5 remake has coated the classic Bethesda RPG in a fresh lick of paint. It also bundles its Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine DLC alongside the core game. Here’s what you need to know to start each DLC’s respective quests.
While Oblivion Remastered has plenty of content, as evidenced by the Oblivion Remastered quest list, Shivering Isles offers one of the better and more substantial chunks of DLC that Bethesda released for their RPG hit.
How to start the Shivering Isles DLC
To start the Shivering Isles DLC, you’ll first need to complete the tutorial by escaping the sewers. Once you’ve done this, head to the Strange Door located in Niben Bay. The easiest way to get here is by heading to Bravil, which you can fast travel to as soon as you’re done with the tutorial. I’ve marked the location of the Strange Door in the map screenshot below.
Once you’re here, head to the island with the large head statue in the center of the bay. You can just swim your way across. Don’t worry about drowning or any nasty creatures lurking underwater. As you step onto the island, the ‘A Door in Niben Bay’ quest will automatically be triggered.
Walk over to the glowing purple portal in the statue and you can quiz Gaius Prentus on what the deal is with the strange door. Some pesky enemy will interrupt your conversation, so take care of them and then talk to Gaius again.
After finishing your conversation with Gaius, you can walk through the portal and meet Haskill, who’ll explain what’s going on. You can quickly agree to help him out, or you can take this opportunity to go away, level yourself up (and get some better gear), and return when you’re feeling better prepared for the challenges that await.
Even if you agree to head through the door there and then, you can immediately walk back out of the door and return later, so you’re not locked into completing the expansion there and then.
Upon agreeing to help out, the world around you will disintegrate into butterflies, and the ‘A Door in Niben Bay’ quest will be completed. You can now continue the Shivering Isles questline.
How to Start Knights of the Nine DLC
Like Shivering Isles, you’ll only need to complete the tutorial before you can start the Knights of the Nine questline. To do this, you’ll need to head to Anvil, which can be found in the northwest of the map (circled in the screenshot below). You can fast travel here as soon as you’re done with the tutorial, so you can make this one of your first ports of call for your adventure in Cyrodiil.
When you land in Anvil, head southeast and look for the Chapel of Dibella. It’s a small building next to a much larger one covered in red flags. You can go inside and see the awful scenes for yourself. Once you’re done, head back outside and speak to ‘The Prophet’ who stands directly across the road from the chapel’s entrance.
Answer his questions as you wish. However, when he asks you whether or not you’re a worthy knight, you need to tell him: “No, I have no claim to fame.” If you don’t, you’ll need to select the ‘Quest for the Relics’ option for him to ask you again.
He’ll eventually give you the Wayshrines Map, which has the nine locations you’ll need to visit across the map.
