Good news could be on the horizon for gamers who want to get their hands on a new Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 or, indeed, any of the GPU maker’s brand-new graphics cards. The company claims that it expects prices for its new RTX 50-series cards to “stabilize” once stock levels have improved, insisting that the it’s “working closely” with partners to make that a reality.
It’s fair to say that, from a gamer’s point of view, Nvidia hasn’t had complete success with the launch of its latest RTX 50-series gaming GPUs. While the RTX 5090 is certainly the best graphics card you can buy in terms of sheer power, not enough gamers have been able to buy one, let alone the rest of the lineup, with the pressure from scalpers and stock shortages leaving prices sky-high compared to their MSRPs.
In a recent media briefing, Nvidia GeForce product manager Justin Walker told Tweaktown that, in response to a question about MSRP pricing for RTX 50-series cards, the company was doing its best to ensure that “supply is available at MSRP” for both retailers and board partners. According to Walker, “the best way to do that is to get more supply onto a shelf” for gamers to buy, with the company expecting prices to come down as stock availability improves.
Walker also confirmed that, despite appearances, Nvidia has been able to ship twice as many GPUs since the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 launched on January 30 compared to the same period during the RTX 40-series launch. However, given that the company took longer between the launches of the RTX 4090, RTX 4080, and RTX 4070, the larger volume of sales this time around might not be that surprising, given the wider selection of RTX 50-series GPUs launched so far.
As far as this series goes, however, Walker says that “shipments have already ramped up” and although the company isn’t prepared to set an exact timescale, it does expect the situation to improve soon.
With any luck, gamers will start to see more RTX 50-series cards on sale, and in stock, closer to their respective MSRPs any day now. Until then, make sure to keep an eye on our where to buy 5090 guide to find the latest available stock of Nvidia’s new flagship card.
