Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 laptops are coming, with the chipmaker officially unveiling the laptop-branded gaming GPUs this week. This particular GPU will serve the more affordable end of the market, with “every major OEM” apparently involved in producing laptops with the new GPU.
Although AMD is fighting a valiant effort to reclaim some of its market share in the GPU market, Nvidia continues to hold dominance, and we’re likely to see plenty of RTX 5060 laptops hit the market. While the best gaming laptops will use the more powerful RTX 5080 or RTX 5090, the more budget-friendly alternatives will be served by the RTX 5060.
Nvidia uses the same brand names for its laptop and desktop GPUs, and as with other models, there is a difference between the desktop RTX 5060 versus its laptop counterpart. While it will use the same GB206 GPU as the RTX 5060, Videocardz has reported that it will feature 512 fewer CUDA cores, with 3,328 cores compared to the 3,840 available to a desktop card.
In terms of power consumption, the GPU will also reportedly use between 45W and 100W, depending on the laptop, with some laptop manufacturers expected to use 25W Dynamic Boost to increase the max to 125W.
The company hasn’t yet announced how much VRAM will be included with RTX 5060 laptops. However, given that the desktop card is expected to only have 8GB of GDDR7 memory available to it, we’d expect to see similar specs here.
Interestingly enough, Nvidia is claiming that the cheapest RTX 5060 laptops will be available for just $1,099. If that’s true, it would only be a modest increase over the prices we’ve seen for similarly-targeted RTX 4060 laptops, but given the involvement of brands such as Razer, Asus, and Alienware, we’d also expect to see prices above that, too.
According to Nvidia, the first RTX 5060 laptops will be available in May 2025. The RTX 5060 on desktop is also expected to launch next month, and we’ll be keen to test this budget-friendly GPU out on laptops and gaming PCs alike.
