Year-on-year supply of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 is reportedly set to be down by at least 60%, according to a post on the Board Channels forum. A translated version of the post states that “main models of the RTX 4060 series will be greatly reduced from the first quarter of 2025.”
With the rumored release of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 penciled in for March 2025, this reported slowdown in production of the RTX 4060 could be a sign that this rumored RTX 5060 release date has some legs.
The Board Channels post doesn’t explicitly state that this rumored shortage is in any way tied to the RTX 5060, but it’s commonplace for supply to shorten at a time when a brand-new card is about to hit the market.
While the domestic market is referenced, meaning China, this reported shortage in supply is expected to have an impact on board partners worldwide. The retail price of the RTX 4060 is yet to change, with it still possible to grab the budget graphics card for around $299, but this could inflate as supply begins to dry up.
The RTX 5060 is rumored to be sticking with 8GB of VRAM, albeit using GDDR7 memory as opposed to the GDDR6 memory featured on the RTX 4060. It’s also rumored to run at 28Gbps compared to the RTX 4060’s 17Gbps, which will see the memory bandwidth increase to 448GB/s from 272GB/s.
Despite the improvements, 8GB of RAM for modern 3D games is easily eaten up, even at 1080p, meaning it’ll be hard to aim for high and ultra settings in new releases.
