NTPC Q3 Results: Net profit rises 3% to ₹4,711.4 crore, revenue up 5% YoY; dividend declared

NTPC Q3 Results: NTPC announced its October-December quarter results for fiscal 2024-25 (Q3FY25) on Saturday, January 25, reporting a rise of three per cent in standalone net profit to 4,711.4 crore, compared to 4,572 crore in the corresponding period last year. India’s largest integrated power utility’s revenue from operations in the third quarter of FY25 rose five per cent to 41,352 crore, compared to 39,455 crore in the year-ago period.

The PSU’s board decided to pay a second interim dividend for FY25 at 25 per cent (Rs. 2.5 per share) on the face value of paid-up equity shares of 10 each. NTPC fixed Friday, January 31, 2025, as the record date for ascertaining the shareholders’ eligibility for payment of the dividend. The dividend payment or the dispatch of the dividend warrant is on February 18, 2025.

NTPC Q3 Results – Key Metrics

On a consolidated basis, NTPC’s net profit reported a marginal dip to 5,169.69 crore, dragged by higher tax expenses and adjustments, compared to 5,208.87 crore in the year-ago period. The consolidated total income rose to 45,597.95 crore in the third quarter from 43,574.65 crore in the same period a year ago. NTPC, the leading state-owned power generator contributes 25 per cent to the country’s power requirement.

Total tax expenses in the quarter increased to 2,075.12 crore from 1,361.75 crore a year ago. Similarly, net movement in regulatory deferral account balances (net of tax) was (minus) 343.09 crore in the quarter against 1436.24 crore (plus) in the same period a year ago.

The average tariff increased to 4.68 per unit in the nine-month period from April to December 2024, up from 4.57 per unit in the same period a year ago. The state-owned power major’s gross generation increased to 91.25 billion units (BU) from 89.46 BU a year ago. The PSU’s coal output in the December quarter increased to 10.98 MMT from 8.09 MMT.

The plant load factor, or capacity utilisation of coal-based plants, also increased slightly to 75.98 per cent in the quarter from 75.95 per cent. On Friday, shares of NTPC settled 0.02 per cent higher at 323.70 apiece on the BSE. The PSU commands a market capitalisation of 3,13,881.08 crore.
