What’s the biggest game you’ve got on your PC? Baldur’s Gate 3 can take up a lot of space, likewise Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Starfield. But a new survival game, partly inspired by the likes of Fallout 4 and Stalker, could just take the prize for the largest demo download on Steam right now. There might be an explanation, but if you wanted to sample Chernobylite 2, you’d better make room – about 100GB worth of room.
Part survival game and part RPG, Chernobylite 2 feels like a more colorful, more sci-fi take on the gloomy world of Stalker 2. Developed by The Farm 51, the studio behind under-celebrated experimental FPS Get Even, the full game is slated for early-access release on Thursday March 6. Ahead of launch day, you can try the roughly hour-long demo right now, which covers the tutorial, some introductory dialogue, and lets you build your class. It’s available until Monday March 3.

However, when you click the demo and choose to add it to your Steam library, the resulting download is a gargantuan 115GB. There are two possibilities. Either the Chernobylite 2 demo really is that large for some reason, or when you download it, you’re actually downloading the files for the entire game. Perhaps, when you play the demo, it just ends after you reach a certain point and blocks you from going any further – but the actual raw game data is all on your hard drive.
The demo was initially shared exclusively to players who backed Chernobylite 2 on Kickstarter, but has been released for everybody just ahead of Steam Next Fest. Quite possibly, The Farm 51 will update the file size to make it more digestible. We’ll keep an eye on it and update this story if anything changes.
Otherwise, you might want to try some of the other best games like Fallout, or maybe the best FPS games available on PC.
