Banding together with your fellow heroes to stand against a mighty foe is so last year. In 2025, we become the mighty ourselves, and new roguelike None Shall Intrude is all about exactly that. Combining card-based deckbuilding with tactical grid combat, this strategy game is all about conquering the world, unlocking your latent abilities, and putting the would-be adventurers trying to stop you into their place. It’s out now on Steam, and there’s a free demo available if you want to try it first.
None Shall Intrude has you striding across a vast empire, conquering the lands region by region, growing your strength as you look to bring down the legendary heroes scattered about the map. Each location presents a combat encounter, where you use your cards to unleash all manner of fireballs, whirlwinds, summons, and so on to demolish the band of fighters that stands in your way. Success offers you rewards ranging from stat boosts and currency to new cards, much as you might be used to in all the best roguelikes from Slay the Spire to Hades.
The grid of tiles that makes up each battle offers plenty of potential for interesting skill combinations and planning. Many attacks have very specific shapes or leave persistent effects on the board, while others might grow stronger with each use or under certain conditions. Standing before you are a range of different enemy types, with many assaulting parties led by a particularly powerful hero unit, meaning you’ll need to have answers for both sheer numbers and foes of singular strength.
Every good boss has multiple phases, and you’re no different. You’ll choose powers to grant yourself unique mechanics during each of your three phases, so you can specialize before each battle based on which state you’re in. As you level up, you’ll earn points that you can invest in a talent tree to further customize your approach to combat. Then, each run is defined by the range of cards and relics you’ll find – the former offering direct attacks and skills, the latter providing passive boosts or unique effects to amplify your chosen play style.
Between encounters, you’ll have the opportunity to customize your boss mechanics and adjust your deck and relics. Merchants offer a welcome opportunity to pick up some new additions, burn out unwanted cards to trim your loadout down, or even opt for a dangerous ‘Death Roll’ with effects ranging from permanent action point increases and legendary cards to bankrupting you or slicing a chunk off your maximum health.
None Shall Intrude is out now on Steam, with a 10% launch discount dropping the price to $13.49 / £11.51 if you buy it by Tuesday February 4. There’s also a free demo available to download if you want to try it out first.
