GTA 6. Half-Life 3. Hollow Knight Silksong. As of this writing, in March 2025, it’s safe to argue that those are the three most-wanted PC games in the world. It’s now eight years since Team Cherry released its original, genre-twisting Metroidvania, and despite being the second-most wishlisted game on all of Steam (behind only InZOI), there are still no solid details on when Silksong may be released. We’ve had hints and teases, however – and now there’s a new clue that could perhaps be very telling.
The Hollow Knight Silksong release date is coming and a recent, official blog post gave a small hint that it could even be this year – so long as you’re prepared to theorize a little. Given how universally beloved Team Cherry’s first Metroidvania game has become (a 97% user rating, even after 360,000 reviews), of course, the appetite for Hollow Knight Silksong is strong. If you’re willing to believe, a new Steam update could offer even more hope that the game is coming this year.

According to SteamDB, on Monday March 24 the Hollow Knight Silksong Steam page was changed to include a new date. Previously, the small legal notice at the very bottom of the page read “Hollow Knight is copyright of Team Cherry, 2019.” Using the Wayback Machine, we can see that this was the case until at least January of this year. However, after the latest change, the legal notice now says that “Hollow Knight is copyright of Team Cherry, 2025.”
Data on SteamDB also shows that the header and other images on the Hollow Knight Silksong have been updated, and that extra categories for cloud gaming have been added to the page. The page was also updated earlier in March and in February. Before that, the most recent update was November 2024.
If you’re feeling optimistic, this could signal that Team Cherry is updating Silksong’s legal details ahead of some kind of announcement, or even a launch. On the contrary, this could just be a routine update that also includes an incidental, innocuous date change. We’ll have to see.
