SRINAGAR: A day after recording the hottest day of the season, Kashmir on Tuesday witnessed a dip in maximum temperatures as several higher reaches experienced fresh snowfall, while rains lashed the plains.

Several upper reaches, including Sinthan Top, received fresh snowfall today. Rainfall continued across the Kashmir Valley till the evening, resulting in a drop in temperature—by 4°C in Srinagar and by a few degrees in other areas compared to the previous day.

The local Meteorological Department (MeT) has issued a yellow alert for Wednesday, predicting isolated thunderstorms, hailstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30–40 km/h) across both Jammu and Kashmir divisions.
Director MeT, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, said that intermittent spells of light rain and snow (in higher reaches) are likely over the next two days at many places in the Kashmir division and at scattered locations in the Jammu division, along with the possibility of thunderstorms and gusty winds (30–40 km/h) at some locations.
He further predicted light rain and snow (in higher reaches) at scattered locations on the morning of April 11, with improvement expected thereafter. From April 12 to 17, the weather is expected to remain generally dry. However, between April 18 and 20, fresh spells of rain and snow (in higher reaches) are expected.
Meanwhile, travellers, tourists, and transporters have been advised to follow official advisories, while farmers have been asked to suspend agricultural operations for the next two days. (KNO)
