Warborne Above Ashes is quite the eclectic mix of genres. At a glance it has similar strategic action to the likes of Command and Conquer with large-scale battles, preparation, and frontline logistics. Underneath that, however, is a colossal MMO where hundreds of players duke it out in month-long wars that require teamwork, skill, and intimate knowledge of your surroundings. If that sounds like it’s for you, Warborne is hosting a new Steam playtest incredibly soon.
Taking control of a Driftmaster, you join a six-faction war taking place on a sci-fi post-apocalyptic world. From a top-down perspective, you dive into 100 vs 100 large-scale battles that can erupt across the map at any point. In Warborne Above Ashes you can go it alone or join a massive guild – the choice is yours.
Blending MMOs and strategy games, the upcoming Warborne playtest is going to be absolutely packed. You’ll have access to all six factions, the game’s colossal warzone will be expanded, and there’ll be an entire month of conflict. You’ll have to dive into pre-war preparations, consider frontline combat logistics, gather resources, and engage in long conflicts of attrition.

When Warborne launches in full, it won’t just be endless conflict, though. After each war the map resets, and everyone gets a fresh start. You’ll have to build up your defenses and armies again, sure, but so will the enemy. With new battlefields, maps, mechanics, and more constantly being added when the game comes out in full, there’ll be more than enough to make each fresh start feel new.
Publisher Qooland Games is launching the next Warborne Above Ashes playtest on Thursday April 24 on Steam. Head here to get involved.
