Want to know how to place objects anywhere in InZOI? If you’re coming from The Sims, freely placing objects in InZOI is a near-essential life hack that makes building the home of your dreams a breeze. There may not be a powerful way to do that in InZOI at launch, but there’s a simple way to remove the grid-based locking system.
Assuming you’re not buying into InZOI purely as a home design tool, you may want to learn how to cure a cold before a persistent sniffle costs your Zois a hard-earned promotion. And if you manage to wedge one into a table using the tips below, learn how to respawn a stuck Zoi, too.
How to freely move and place objects in InZOI
You won’t have as much freedom as the old Sims move objects cheat command until an equivalent is found, added, or modded in. However, there is already a one-click approach to allow for placing objects inside walls or tightly packing them against other pieces of furniture in a room.
You can place objects without the grid system simply by holding Alt while you move it around. This removes the grid snapping feature temporarily, not only allowing furniture items to be pushed against each other, but combined as well. Likewise, rotating an object while holding Alt unlocks per-degree movement, removing the restriction of the 45-degree incremental turning you typically get when right-clicking or using the C and Z keys.
To toggle the free placement feature so that you don’t need to hold ALT, click the grid icon at the very top of the build screen bar instead. And when you need the snap feature back, just toggle it back on again. Freely moving objects in InZOI is the simplest way to make the most of the visible floor space in a room without conforming to the restrictions of the grid system.
You do risk creating impassable areas, but as long as you keep the general rule of the grid system in mind, or use this little tip solely to create show homes for photo shoots or design purposes, you’ll be fine.
How to make objects bigger and smaller in InZOI
Right now, there doesn’t appear to be a way to increase or decrease the size of an object or piece of furniture in InZOI. Employing the old Sims strategy of the < and > keys doesn’t work, and there’s no option in the axis-based movement mode to scale object size, either.
And that’s how to move objects in InZOI. While you’re here, find out what’s coming to the simulation game with our InZOI roadmap guide.
