Hello Kitty Island Adventure developer Sunblink has some special gifts to thank players for its heartfelt response to the sandbox life sim’s long-awaited Steam launch. Hello Kitty is certainly a big deal – the Sanrio series clocks in as the tenth highest-grossing media franchise ever, putting it just above Call of Duty and under the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But whether you’re a long-time fan of the cartoon cat and her cast of companions or not, their arrival on Steam might just be PC’s long-awaited answer to Animal Crossing, and it’s already proving a hit.
Previously only available through Apple Arcade but now finally out on Steam, Hello Kitty Island Adventure is an open-world life game in the vein of Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing. As someone who’s spent a lot of time playing Disney’s Dreamlight Valley and, more recently, Infinity Nikki, I can certainly appreciate the satisfaction of a relaxing game that’s filled with things to do. Island Adventure has plenty to offer there – landing on the eponymous island with a group of familiar faces from the Hello Kitty universe, you’ll be exploring and building out a community day by day.
Don’t let the simple, carefree nature put you off – Sunblink estimates that completing all of Hello Kitty Island Adventure’s quests could keep you busy for upwards of 80 hours. Alongside that are all manner of side activities, from puzzles uncovered in hidden ruins to gathering, gardening, collecting critters, and seasonal events. Then there’s building and decoration to be done, and dozens of friends to meet, with more than 40 potential pals to hand out your Hello Kitty Island Adventure gifts to, including my personal favorites Retsuko and Cinnamoroll.
The game’s appearance on Steam is off to a great start – more than 1,000 reviews have already been submitted, and an impressive 93% of them recommend it. “Oh gosh,” Sunblink writes in a thank-you post to the community, “We feel so buttered up by the outpouring of love on our launch day. In a mere 24 hours we saw Hello Kitty Island Adventure explode all over Steam, our Discord community grow by leaps and bounds, and an overwhelming number of awesome and hilarious reviews.”
It adds that Hello Kitty Island Adventure has now also been Steam Deck verified, meaning it should run perfectly on the Valve handheld. Whether you just want to check in on your daily quests before you get out of bed in the morning, or fancy a cozy session curled up in front of the TV, Island Adventure certainly seems like it will be one of the best Steam Deck games to play throughout 2025.
As special thanks for the positive response, you can expect “a series of Sunblink Mails in-game over the next two weeks with a bunch of gifts to make the most out of your island adventure.” These will include the powerful Island Bouquets, which reset the drops around the world for the day so you can gather more, and Friendship Bouquets, which let you hand out another round of gifts to level up all your friendships even faster.
Hello Kitty Island Adventure is out now on Steam, priced at $39.99 / £35.99 for the standard edition or $59.99 / £53.99 for the deluxe edition. The latter includes some additional items and crafting materials, and you’ll also get access to more than 300 seasonal event items straight away rather than having to wait for them to become available during the regular season cycle. Head here to start your own cozy tale.
