As we wait for new Hades 2 content, Sworn is the perfect alternative. The co-op action roguelike clearly takes inspiration from Supergiant’s magnum opus, with a similar isometric perspective, endless rooms of enemies, and frenetic combat, but there’s so much more to it. Instead of Greek Myth, you’re in the midst of Arthurian Legend, and there’s even up to four-player co-op. If that sounds like a game you need to try, you can grab Sworn at a huge discount right now via Fanatical, but you don’t have long.
Developer Windwalk Games recently launched Sworn into Steam Early Access, and it’s already one of the best roguelike games on Valve’s platform. Instead of focusing on what Hades did well, Sworn gives you plenty of characters and build options to choose from. You can either play as the Vigilante, Rook, Spectre, or Monk, each of which has four unique spells and weapons. Once you’ve suited up, alone or with friends, it’s time to head into the fallen Camelot and fight the corrupt King Arthur.
So instead of Zeus, Achilles, and Sisyphus, you’ll meet the Fae Lords, Merlin, and even the Lady of the Lake. British folklore takes center stage in Sworn, providing the backdrop for some seriously intense fights. You’ve got ten bosses to discover in the early access version, with each guarding your path to Camelot itself. If your skills with Zagreus and Melinoë are up to the task, you’ll get to his majesty in no time.
My colleague Ken previewed Sworn last year, and sang the game’s praises. The sheer amount of depth and variety available, especially when playing with friends, makes Sworn more than just a Hades-like, even if it looks like one at first glance.
