Control is a game with an impeccable sense of visual direction. The story of Jesse Faden’s trip through The Oldest House is certainly gripping and the gameplay is tight, but it’s the vibes that keep me coming back. The brutalist architecture flawlessly integrates with Remedy’s science fiction and excellent world-building to make Control an experience unlike any other, and it’s just got even better. A new update from Remedy adds some platform exclusive content to PC, and brings plenty of graphical improvements, too.

Hideo Kojima is now in Control for everyone playing on PC. You read that right, the visionary game director behind Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding is in Remedy’s single-player game, no matter your platform. Kojima provides voiceover for the Dr. Yoshimi Tokui’s Guided Imagery Experience mission in the game, and until now this was exclusive to the PS4 Digital Deluxe version. With the Dead Stranding 2 release date on the way, it looks like we’re in the year of Kojima.

That’s not all, though, because you now have access to a collection of pre-order and PS4-exclusive outfits for Jesse. So if you’re feeling like diving back into Control, you’ve got some new content (on PC, at least) to justify it. The same update is coming to Xbox Series and PS5 players in the future.

Remedy has also introduced some new graphical controls to the game, so your time in The Oldest House can look better than ever. The game now has HDR support, an ultra ray tracing preset, ultrawide support for up to 48:9, FOV scaling for the gameplay camera, DX11/12 selection, and rendering resolution support beyond 4K. There’s also DLSS and DLAA support, and plenty of upgrades for DLSS itself. In short, Control can look better than before if your hardware is up for it. You can find the full patch notes here.

While you’re playing Control you’ll want to brush up on what Remedy has to say about the planned sequel. The team says “Control 2 will be an action RPG,” with those extra role-playing elements sure to set it apart from the first game. If you want something to play with friends, FBC Firebreak is set in the same universe as Control, and is coming to Game Pass on day one.
