AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal alleged that his security was breached yet again as associates of the opposition candidate attacked his vehicle in the police presence.
He said the Delhi Police was acting on Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s orders. He further demanded answers from the Election Commission for failing to safeguard national party leaders amid repeated attacks.
“The Delhi Police have become BJP’s personal army,” he asserted.
Sharing this incident, Kejriwal in a post on X, wrote, “Today in Hari Nagar, the police allowed the opposition candidate’s men to enter my public meeting and then attacked my car. All this is happening on the orders of Amit Shah. He has made the Delhi Police the personal army of the BJP. Questions are being raised on the Election Commission that the president of a national party and its leaders are being constantly attacked and the Election Commission is unable to take any effective action.”
AAP alleged that the attack left Arvind Kejriwal stranded in his car for an extended period while the police stood by as silent spectators, offering no protection.
“The incident raises serious questions over the safety of Arvind Kejriwal and the neutrality of the police and the Election Commission,” the AAP said.
Supporters of Raj Kumari Dhillon, who is fighting the elections as an Independent, disrupted his speech. “The situation escalated further as they once again attacked Arvind Kejriwal’s vehicle when he was leaving, showcasing a disturbing pattern of violence and intimidation. Shockingly, the police failed to take action, fostering an environment where such attacks continue unabated,” the AAP said in a statement.
AAP alleges ‘misuse of power’ by BJP, police
Meanwhile, the AAP raised serious concerns over the conduct of the Election Commission and the alleged misuse of power by the BJP and the Delhi Police during the ongoing election campaigns on Thursday.
Senior party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh alleged that a night raid was conducted on AAP worker Bunty Shekhawat’s house in New Delhi. “Nothing was found during the raid, which was based on a false complaint,” he said.
The MP further alleged that another AAP worker faced a similar harassment. Party workers going door to door for campaigning are often subjected to violence by BJP goons or arbitrarily detained by the Delhi Police. He said a similar incident occurred at the BR Camp on 7 Race Course Road on Wednesday.
He said detained party workers were taken to the Tughlak Road police station without any justification.
“When I rang up the police station, officers said they received a complaint that some ‘suspicious people’ were campaigning,” Singh alleged.
“The Election Commission should take a serious note of this. The BJP must not delude itself into thinking it won’t lose. It’s absolutely certain that they will face a resounding defeat. Parvesh Verma will lose, and the BJP will suffer a terrible loss in Delhi,” he said.
