When we talk about cozy videogames, I think it comes down to the overall vibe. Menial tasks, warm colors, and welcoming characters. Spiritfarer has all of that in spades, and it’s incredibly cheap as a part of the Steam Spring Sale right now. So if you want to keep yourself busy on a free weekend, or just fancy one of the most emotionally impactful games out there, give this one a try.
Spiritfarer is an (after)life game. That means, instead of helping a delightfully eclectic group of NPCs get on with their daily lives, you’re actually assisting them as they move on. As Stella you need to build a boat and ferry these spirits to the next life by helping them come to terms with their lives, and this takes many forms. You still need to upgrade your homestead, and head out to mine, fish, farm, cook, and craft as you would across the genre, but the end goal is decidedly more final.
I’ve played through Spiritfarer a few times now, and each time I finish it I have a more profound reaction. I won’t spoil anything here, but if you’re a fan of games like Stardew Valley, Bear and Breakfast, and even A Short Hike, you owe it to yourself to play this one.

As for the Farewell Edition, it contains every single update that was added to Spiritfarer in the years since launch. So if you play the management game now, you’ll have access to even more spirits, a new island, and a whole lot more. This sale has proved popular, too, as the game has just hit an all-time peak of over 8,700 players on Valve’s platform. The game even has a 95% rating from almost 38,000 user reviews, so a lot of people clearly love it. If you’ve been waiting for a cozy game to while away the hours, now’s the time to dive in.
This sale comes mere days before Thunder Lotus’ next game, 33 Immortals. While this co-op action-roguelike leans into quick combat, it still has the same focus on the afterlife that Spiritfarer does. Here, you need to fight your way through hell, purgatory, and heaven with 32 others – it’s not quite the wholesome hugging of the studio’s last game, but it’s still very promising.
Spiritfarer is 90% off until Thursday March 20, so expect to pay just $2.99 / £2.49 on Steam until then. Just go right here.
