Lunar Eclipse 2025 Date And Time: For those fascinated by celestial events, March is set to be a special month. The first Chandra Grahan (Lunar Eclipse) of the year will occur on 14 March 2025. So what is Lunar Eclipse or Chandra Grahan? According to NASA, “Lunar eclipses occurs at the full moon phase. When Earth is positioned precisely between the Moon and Sun, Earth’s shadow falls upon the surface of the Moon, dimming it and sometimes turning the lunar surface a striking red over the course of a few hours.”
According to the Hindu calendar, every full moon falls on the last date of the Shukla Paksha of the lunar month.
Upcoming Lunar Eclipse
On March 14, the first lunar eclipse of 2025 will begin at 10:41 AM and end at 2:18 PM (IST). A Total Lunar Eclipse will be observed. According to NASA during a Total Lunar Eclipse, “The Moon moves into the inner part of Earth’s shadow, or the umbra. Some of the sunlight passing through Earth’s atmosphere reaches the Moon’s surface, lighting it dimly.”
“Colors with shorter wavelengths ― the blues and violets ― scatter more easily than colors with longer wavelengths, like red and orange. Because these longer wavelengths make it through Earth’s atmosphere, and the shorter wavelengths have scattered away, the Moon appears orangish or reddish during a lunar eclipse,” it adds.
Will the Eclipse Be Visible in India?
It will not be visible in India. The total lunar eclipse will be visible in North and South America, including the United States, Canada, and South America. Some parts of North Africa’s western coast may witness the eclipse in the early morning hours. However, it will not be visible in India.
However, since this eclipse will not have any impact in India, the Sutak period will not be considered valid. As the eclipse will not be visible in India, the associated rules and traditions will not apply here.
