It looks like both the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 and RTX 5060 release dates could be pushed back due to an issue with the mass production of the chips. After some “chip performance issues” were detected, a round of debugging has had to be put into effect, pushing back full scale roll out of the GPUs. That’s all according to a new rumor that suggests the production schedule of both these mid-tier Nvidia cards could be pushed back to mid-March at the earliest.

This is another fly in the ointment for Nvidia, following the launch of its latest RTX 50-series that has seen both RTX 5090 stock and RTX 5080 stock almost impossible to find, making it very difficult for gamers to pick up one of the best graphics cards for themselves. Despite earlier rumors of a February launch, the RTX 5070 has also since seen an early March release window speculated online, while recent RTX 5060 launch rumors now point to that card coming in April instead.

This rumor was initially reported by Taiwanese site CTEE, with their sources suggesting some performance issues – they don’t elaborate on what they are – were detected in early production runs of the GPUs, and as a result production has been pushed back while the problem is debugged.

The report also cites recent Taiwan earthquakes as having disrupted the overall production capacity of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). TSMC is the company that produces the vast majority of the world’s top-tier silicon chips right now, from CPUs and GPUs for PCs to mobile chips too.

The combination of these factors has left the production schedule behind by around four weeks. As such, CTEE reports that the RTX 5070 is now expected to become available in mid-March, while RTX 5060 stock will become available by mid-April.

Nvidia hasn’t confirmed anything itself so far, but if this is true, it would mean another delay in the RTX 5070’s launch date window from the recently suggested early March timescale. That is itself a delay from the February 2025 date originally suggested by Nvidia when it announced the GPUs at CES in early January.

Meanwhile, the RTX 5060 is a card that hasn’t even been formally announced yet by Nvidia, but it’s already seen earlier launch date rumors pushed back. For instance, RTX 5060 launch date rumors prior to CES suggested March 2025 as the original likely window for release, while this new report suggests a push back to April at the earliest, assuming that the production schedule can get back on track.

With the recently-mooted March 5 launch date for the RTX 5070 soon approaching, it won’t be long before we see whether or not Nvidia is still able to get at least one of these cards out to the public without a big delay. Until then, make sure to check out our where to buy RTX 5070 Ti guide for stock updates on the recently released Ti version of the card which, like its bigger siblings, we expect to see stock shortages for some time yet.
