I’ve been wondering the last few weeks whether the huge hype and focus on Verdansk’s return to Warzone next week would result in a weaker offering for multiplayer and Zombies content for Black Ops 6 Season 3. What a fool I was to doubt the almighty content machine that is Call of Duty. Yes, everyone (myself included) is losing their minds over Verdansk’s revival, and Warzone mania is rife, but Black Ops 6 is shaping up to have another solid season, and that includes the all new Zombies map, Shattered Veil. Treyarch has just given us an in-depth look at it, and revealed that the Ray Gun Mark 2 is returning alongside an iconic Wonder Weapon and fan-favorite perk.

Given how underwhelming things have been for Zombies fans in recent years, I’m still in disbelief at just how well it’s being supported in Black Ops 6. When Shattered Veil arrives next week, it’ll bring the total number of round-based Black Ops 6 Zombies maps to five, which is pretty remarkable. It takes us into the hills above Liberty Falls to the Colton Hall mansion containing S.A.M., the artificially intelligent giant Pokéball that’s going to hopefully help us unlock the secrets of the Sentinel Artifact. The map looks epic, with a sprawling but dilapidated manor house above ground and the secret lab where S.A.M. resides beneath the surface.

Within the walls of Colton Hall, you’ll also be able to pick up two iconic COD Zombies weapons. The first is the Ray Gun Mark 2, the burst-fire cousin to the beloved laser blaster. The second is the Wunderwaffe DG-2, the original Wonder Weapon, which lets you blast Zombies with chainable electric energy.

A popular Perk-A-Cola returns too. Double Tap has been absent from Zombies for a long while, but it’s back for Shattered Veil with its own dedicated, rootin’ tootin’ vending machine (it’ll also be available in existing maps through the Wunderfizz machine too). For the unaware, Double Tap increases the rate of fire on all your weapons, allowing you to dish out damage more quickly – just be prepared to run out of bullets quicker than usual.

Two new enemy types will throw themselves at you in Shattered Veil – and I mean that very literally for one of them. The first is the Elder Disciple, a mage-like Zombie variant that sounds very powerful indeed. Elder Disciples can summon more undead to their location, and cause rank-and-file Zombies to evolve into some of the more advanced enemy types in Black Ops 6. If you get too close to one, they’ll also knock you back with a piercing scream, so ranged weapons will be required to take them down. The second is the Toxic Zombie, which has just one goal in mind: sprint directly at you and explode into a pool of deadly acid. Gun them down before they get too close and detonate.

Shattered Veil is also littered with new Microwave Traps, which when switched on will fry any Zombies that try to walk through it. The Death Machine has also been added as a scorestreak, so spin it up and let her rip.

Shattered Veil launches in Black Ops 6 Zombies at the start of Season 3 on Wednesday, April 2.

That means you’ve got less than a week to get warmed up, so jump back into Black Ops 6 and play some of the existing maps first. Alternatively, go and slay out in some of the best zombie games and best FPS games.
