What is the best best Asus gaming laptop? From sleek and portable to large and powerful, Asus has a wide range of gaming laptops to suit many different buyers. Its two main lines of gaming laptops are the high-end ROG (Republic of Gamers) devices that boast the latest gaming CPUs and screen technologies and the more keenly priced TUF (The Ultimate Force) machines that focus on quality internals rather than style.

Our top choice right now for most buyers is the Asus ROG Zephyrus G16, as it nicely balances portability and power with a sleek design for a reasonable price. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14, meanwhile, is a great even more portable alternative. For ultimate power, though, check out the Asus ROG Strix Scar 18. Pros

  • Dazzling 240Hz OLED screen
  • Sleek design
  • Powerful graphics card options
Cons

  • Can’t house most powerful GPUs
  • Low end models limited to 16GB RAM
  • No built in network port

The Asus ROG Zephyrus range is one of our favorite of all manufacturers. It offers a superb balance of of sleek, slim design and powerful components while undercutting many competitors on price. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 is the larger of its too models, and is the gaming laptop that we’d pick for more buyers.

While available in a range of configurations, the RTX 4070-equipped model we reviewed comes with a stunning 240Hz OLED monitor that looks amazing whether you’re gaming, watching video, or just checking your emails. It’s pin-sharp, has incredible vivid colors, and has gaming performance for days.

It really is the design of this laptop that sets it apart, though. It’s all aluminum and looks and feels fantastic, which is something we can also say about its keyboard and trackpad. With plenty of ports and solid battery life too, there’s very little this laptop doesn’t absolutely nail.

There are a few downsides to note, though. For one, the slimness of this laptop means it tops out at RTX 4070 GPUs, so can’t offer the RTX 4080 or even RTX 5090 GPUs or the company’s latest larger laptops. You also miss out on a dedicated Ethernet network port and lower end models are restricted to 16GB of RAM that can’t be upgraded. But, overall, this is still a superb machine.

Asus ROG Strix Scar 18

Most powerful Asus gaming laptop

Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 specifications:

GraphicsUp to Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 (175W)
CPUIntel Core i9 14900HX (65W)
RAM32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR5-5600
Storage4TB (2TB + 2TB) PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD (RAID 0)
Display18-inch, 2,560 x 1600, 240Hz, Mini LED
Dimensions15.71 x 11.57 x 1.21 in
Weight6.61 lbs (3 kg)
Pros

  • Stunning Mini LED panel
  • Strong gaming performance
  • Upgradable RAM
Cons

  • Speakers are poor
  • Expensive price tag
  • Big and bulky build

Asus laptops don’t get more powerful than the ROG Strix Scar 18, featuring up to Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 graphics, running at 175W, and a Core i9 14900HX processor packed inside an 18-inch chassis. This system pushes performance above all.

As an example of its impressive performance, it can muster an average frame rate of 97fps in Cyberpunk 2077 running the game’s RT Ultra preset with DLSS 3. More broadly, this portable powerhouse performs in line with a desktop system sporting a GeForce RTX 4070 Super and Core i5 14600K.

A 1600p Mini LED panel, with a 240Hz refresh rate, makes for an ideal partner to the ROG Strix Scar 18’s internal specs. We found that games look and feel fantastic on this screen, whether playing something competitive that demands high-frame rates or a more narrative-driven title filled with ray-traced eye candy.

Don’t expect to play for long on the Scar 18’s battery, as we found it lasted under an hour during our battery stress test. Its biggest faults, however, lie in its underwhelming speakers and loud “gamer” aesthetic, which is less subtle than Alienware m18 models. If you need the ultimate performance, no laptop in the Asus lineup bests it.

Asus ROG Zephyrus G14

Most portable Asus gaming laptop

Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 specifications:

GraphicsUp to Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 (90W)
CPUAMD Ryzen 9 8945HS
RAMUp to 32GB (2 x 16GB) LPDDR5X-6400
Storage1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD
Display14-inch 120Hz OLED
Battery73 WHrs
Dimensions0.64 x 12.2 x 8.7 in
Weight3.3lbs (1.5kg)
Pros

  • Glossy OLED display with G-Sync support
  • Premium build quality
  • Good gaming performance
Cons

  • Soldered RAM can’t be upgraded
  • Minor spec upgrades from last year
  • Difficult to run some games at native resolution

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is the right choice if you want portability. This stunning, slim, and small system has everything we’d want from a 14-inch gaming laptop; it’s easy to carry, easy on the eye, and doesn’t skimp on performance.

The all-aluminum-alloy chassis is lightweight when tucked away in your backpack or carried in your arms. Despite its petite dimensions, Asus has crammed strong silicon inside this frame, topping out at a GeForce RTX 4070 and AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS.

Adding to its premium qualities is its OLED display, with a resolution of 1800p and 120Hz. During testing, we found this combination created a screen as sharp as it is smooth, particularly for gaming given its Nvidia G-Sync support. However, to keep games running smoothly, we needed to give the graphics room to breathe, through Nvidia DLSS, shifting to a lower resolution, or turning down some options.

The only major flaw of the Zephyrus G14 is that its RAM cannot be upgraded later, as it is soldered to the motherboard. With this in mind, we strongly recommend opting for the 32GB model if your budget can stretch to the higher price tag.

Asus ROG Flow Z13

Best Asus gaming tablet/laptop 2in1

Asus ROG Flow Z13 specifications:

GraphicsAMD Radeon RX 8060S
CPUUp to AMD Ryzen AI Max 395+
RAM32GB
Storage1TB SSD
Ports1 x USB-A 3.2, 1 x USB-C 3.2, 1 x HDMI 2.1
Screen2560 x 1600, 180Hz
Dimensions0.59 x 11.81 x 8.03 inches (30.0 x 20.4 x 1.49cm)
Weight2.65lbs (1.20kg)
Pros

  • Amazing gaming power in a tablet
  • Versatile tablet/laptop design
  • Impressive battery life
Cons

  • Not as practical as a laptop
  • Bulky for a tablet
  • Very expensive

The Asus ROG Flow Z13 is a gaming tablet/laptop hybrid consisting of a tablet that houses all the device’s main features – processor, screen, connections, etc – and a magnetically-attached keyboard and trackpad cover. It wouldn’t be our first choice as either a gaming laptop or general purpose tablet but if you see the appeal of its hybrid design, it does a lot to impress.

One of the key features of this tablet is that it houses AMD’s new Ryzen AI Max 300 CPUs. These include a huge integrated GPU that means a separate GPU chip isn’t needed like it is on most gaming laptops. This means the tablet can still be quite compact and not run crazy hot while still offering impressive gaming performance – it’ll run most games at 1080p or higher, if you turn settings down to medium-high.

This chip also delivers impressive battery life. While you’ll only get a couple of hours of gaming away from mains power, for general desktop use this tablet will last over 10 hours.

It’s an impressive system but it’s definitely not as convenient to use as a laptop compared to normal laptops and it’s quite large for a general purpose tablet. Plus, it’s very expensive. But it’s undeniably impressive at what it does.

Asus TUF A15

Best value Asus gaming laptop

Asus TUF A15 specifications:

GraphicsUp to Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050/3060
CPUUp to AMD Ryzen 9-7940HX
RAM8/16/23/64GB
Storage512GB/1TB/2TB SSD
Ports3 x USB 3.2 Type-A, HDMI 2.1, 3.5mm Audio Jack
Screen15.6-inch Full HD 1920 x 1080p/144Hz
Dimensions9.88 x 13.94 x 0.98-inch (25.1 x 35.4 x 2.24cm)
Weight4.85lbs (2.2kg)
Pros

  • Solid battery life
  • Quiet fans
  • Understated style
Cons

  • Lackluster trackpad
  • Average speakers
  • Screen struggles with deep blacks

If you’re in the market for a budget gaming laptop, the Asus TUF A15 is a great place to start. This entry level machine can be had for under $700, while for under $900 you’re still getting you an 8-core CPU, 32GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD and reasonable 1080p gaming performance from its Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 GPU. You can also spec the laptop up to include an RTX 4070, though this adds $100s to its base price.

Sure, this laptop isn’t going to set any gaming world records but for firing up Fortnite or marvelling at mighty Minecraft creations, it’s more than up to the job. Its 144Hz 1080p screen is also ample for even competitive gaming, meaning you won’t be yearning for a separate gaming monitor to perform well in games. It also delivers reasonable battery life and has plenty of ports for connecting your devices.

Its design is also reasonably smart, without too many crazy gamer details and you get a full-size keyboard with number pad. Where you miss out is in the little finishing touches and luxuries, with the screen, keyboard, trackpad, and speaker quality all being merely adequate rather than amazing. But, that’s why this machine costs hundreds of dollars less than Asus’ more premium offerings.
