Now that the launch has settled and Ubisoft’s latest stealth RPG has had a chance to breathe, statistics confirm that the Assassin’s Creed Shadows concurrent player count on Steam is the highest in the entire series. For Honor and Rainbow Six Siege remain Ubi’s biggest games overall, of course, and the likes of Far Cry and The Division outstrip AC, but compared to its contemporaries including Valhalla, Mirage, Origins, and Odyssey, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has pulled in the most simultaneous users.
Whether you’re just starting out or already in the process of tracking down all the Assassin’s Creed Shadows Legendary Sumi-e, the new stealth game and RPG evidently has plenty to offer. Released on Thursday March 20, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has (albeit very narrowly) beaten its series predecessors in terms of concurrent player records. On Sunday March 23, 64,825 people were playing AC Shadows all at the same time. That tops the previous record for the series on Steam, set by Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, with 62,069.
Origins is the next-most popular AC game on Steam, then Black Flag – while not every AC game was released on Steam the same day as other platforms, Odyssey and Origins, like Shadows, were both day-one launches. In terms of Ubisoft games overall, only For Honor, the original Division, Rainbow Six Siege, and Far Cry 5 have higher record player counts.
Speaking to PCGamesN, Masumi, the voice actor behind AC Shadows’ Naoe, explains that despite some of the comments and criticism that the new Assassin’s Creed has faced so far, she is “excited for people to see it.” A small, day-one update has already removed a controversial feature from Assassin’s Creeds Shadows. There is also a secret setting that makes Naoe’s hidden blade work and feel much more like the hidden blade in older Assassin’s Creed games.
