Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh became Punjab Kings’ all-time leading wicket-taker in IPL history. He has surpassed Piyush Chawla to hold the record. The 25-year-old picked up the wicket of Phil Salt at Chinnaswamy to move past the leg-spinner.
Young pacer Arshdeep Singh became Punjab Kings’ all-time leading wicket-taker in IPL history. The left-arm seamer surpassed spinner Piyush Chawla, who had 84 scalps to his name for Punjab. Notably, Arshdeep picked up the wicket of Phil Salt in the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at M Chinnaswamy Stadium to surpass the record.
Notably, Chawla represented Punjab from the inaugural season in 2008 till 2013. Arshdeep, on the other hand, joined the team in 2019 and rose to the ranks. Interestingly, he was released ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction, but Punjab broke the bank for the 25-year-old, signing him for INR 18 crore.
Meanwhile, Arshdeep picked up two wickets for 23 runs in the match. He also picked up the prized wicket of Virat Kohli, who departed for just one run. Arshdeep set the momentum for PBKS as RCB had a horrid day with the bat. The hosts were reduced to 42/7 as they were heading towards an embarrassing total.
However, Tim David stepped up at the correct time to hit his maiden IPL half-century and helped the team post a respectable total on the board. The Australia international made an unbeaten 50 runs off 26 deliveries as RCB posted 95 runs in the first innings. The match was reduced to 14 overs due to rain and they would now hope to produce a fine performance with the ball to restrict PBKS and win it.
Meanwhile, apart from Arshdeep, Marco Jansen, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Harpreet Brar have also picked up two wickets each. They were sensational to start the day but failed to finish well and that might come back to haunt them in the second innings. Head coach Rinky Ponting was livid with how the match progressed towards the end as he was hoping for a better performance.
