Retailers are reportedly canceling Radeon RX 9070 XT pre-orders, then subsequently raising the price of the cards. AMD’s chief architect of gaming solution and marketing Frank Azor confirmed that the company is working with AIBs to replenish stock while “MSRP pricing (excluding region specific tariffs and/or taxes) will continue to be encouraged.”
In our RX 9070 XT review, we praise the new GPU as one of the best graphics cards, capable of beating the RTX 5070 “at just about everything, including ray tracing” and even bestowed it with our Excellence award. As AMD looks to regain its footing in the GPU market, this latest stock hiccup is frustrating customers, leading to intervention from the brand on pricing.
In an explicit post to r/radeon, one angry customer from the UK posted about their experience with retailer Ebuyer, who contacted them to cancel a pre-order made for an RX 9070 XT at MSRP, with the card then reappearing on-site to order at a much higher price.
The most curious part of the response from Ebuyer was the mention that “we won’t be receiving any additional stock at this price” suggesting that only the first shipment of cards adheres to the $599.99 MSRP. Frank Azor’s post to X (formerly Twitter) doesn’t deny that this is the case, but in a statement made to Hardware Unboxed, AMD states, “It is inaccurate that $549/$599 MSRP is launch-only pricing.”
While early signs suggested that 9070 XT stock would be “much healthier” than any of Nvidia’s latest launches, it appears as though stock of the GPU is now also in short supply, with little to no sign of cards appearing at MSRP. We even reported some cards costing up to $1,499 on eBay, thanks to RX 9070 XT scalpers.
This divisive misunderstanding of the price at which retailers can or will sell the RX 9070 XT is only causing prolonged frustration for prospective customers.
