AMD’s new Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 graphics cards have proven to be a hit with gamers, so much so that stock dried up almost immediately, and manufacturers started inflating prices above the $599 and $549 MSRPs. A new report suggests that AMD shipped over 200,000 of these new cards, but it’s not entirely clear whether this number is to customers or retailers.
In our 9070 XT review, we hailed this new AMD GPU as one of the best graphics cards that your money can buy. The issue, however, has been finding one to purchase in the first place, and even if you did, the likelihood is that it was at least $200 above MSRP.
The reported 200,000 sales figure comes via a translated BenchLife article from the AMD AI Innovation Summit that recently took place in Beijing. While not explicitly stated, it’s implied that this figure was discussed while Jack Huynh was on stage, talking about AI and gaming.
This reported number isn’t too surprising. The missing context, however, is whether this is the number sold to customers or retailers. Stock of the 9070 XT and 9070 cards can still be found, just for well above the $599 and $549 MRSP that was set and is still encouraged by AMD.
The good news is that if you’re still waiting to buy one of these elusive GPUs, a stock refresh is coming soon according to AMD board partner Yeston, who claims that the supply of stock for these GPUs should stabilize “after April.”
