The last couple of weeks have been a little quiet on the Path of Exile 2 front, but developer Grinding Gear Games is hard at work on improvements for its long-awaited ARPG sequel. With the launch of new seasons for Last Epoch, Torchlight Infinite, and Diablo 4 all landing, there’s been a spot of breathing room for GGG after Dawn of the Hunt’s rocky rollout, and the studio now reaffirms that its next big PoE 2 update is set to arrive this week, with a focus on one of the biggest remaining frustrations: loot.

Snagging sweet, juicy item drops is the lifeblood of the best games like Diablo, yet Path of Exile 2 has felt rather too unforgiving on that front since its latest season landed. While GGG has already fixed many of the most immediate complaints since the launch of its Dawn of the Hunt overhaul, there’s still more to be done. After a week of relative silence (thanks in part to both the Easter weekend and New Zealand public holiday ANZAC Day), the team has reared its head to confirm that it’s in the process of finalizing Path of Exile 2 patch 0.2.0g.

This update is set to boost loot in several ways. There’s an overall boost to the quality of items you’ll get upon defeating the many Path of Exile 2 bosses, and “unlucky streaks” from boss payouts should be further mitigated by a higher floor of quality among their drops. GGG is also increasing the loot earned by allowing monsters to become possessed and empowered by the new Azmerian Wisps before you fight them.

The patch is also expected to improve the progression of the endgame Atlas passive tree by reducing the number of Corrupted Nexuses you need to track down and cleanse. Pinnacle fights, the ultimate test of your best Path of Exile 2 builds, will be made more accessible, the frustrating Simulacrums are being made a little easier, and Remnants in Expeditions should create fewer annoying difficulty spikes.

“We’re expecting to release the patch by the end of this week,” Grinding Gear Games confirms today via X. If you need something to tide you over in the meantime, new custom leagues are coming to the first PoE on Thursday May 1, so you can dive into the free Steam game and try out a new playthrough with a set of weird or challenging custom modifiers.
