Cricketer Virat Kohli is known to celebrate his victories with his wife, actor Anushka Sharma, who often accompanies him on tournaments across the world. Anushka is a fixture in the players’ box, cheering for Virat from the sidelines. And Virat often acknowledges Anushka’s presence at the ground by blowing kisses in her direction. On occasions, he has also been spotted having video calls with his children, daughter Vamika and son Akaay. R Ashwin, who recently announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket, opened up about the difference in his demeanor and that of Virat.
In an interview, he said that he’s often compared to Virat, and that the public seems to think that he’s very serious as a person, whereas Virat is the more fun-loving one. Ashwin said that he’s super-focused on the job at hand, which is winning matches for his country. “I wanted people to know me for who I am because, a lot of times, Ashwin’s picking up a wicket, and Virat Kohli is all over the place. He’s just jumping about, and people very often tend to believe that Ashwin’s the one who’s absolutely serious and Virat’s the one who’s having all the fun, which is why somebody asked me the question: ‘Why are you serious all the time?” Ashwin said on Sky Sports Podcast.
He continued, making a refence to Virat’s tendency to acknowledge Anushka, “My answer to that, in the first place, is I’m never a serious person. But when somebody is clobbering me and I have the ball in my hand to win a Test match for my country, my mind is ticking, because I’m in the process. So, very often, you don’t see me picking up a five-wicket haul and pushing across a kiss through the blade of my bat to my better half sitting in the dressing room or in the hospitality box. I felt like a lot of who I am got diluted in the fact of what I’ve become.”
In a recent interview with Ranveer Allahbadia on his podcast, actor Varun Dhawan spoke about Anushka and Virat, and revealed that she had shared some insight into Virat’s mind in conversations with him. “It was at the Nottingham Test, when India lost. She said that she didn’t attend that game. She came back and didn’t know where Virat was. She went to the room and saw him, literally crying. He blamed himself, even though he was the highest scorer that day,” he said.
