With so many survival games still going strong today, it can be difficult to pick just one to play. Palworld keeps improving. Rust still sits at the top of the Steam charts. Even Enshrouded keeps getting bigger and better. But for me, V Rising beats them all. The vampire-focused survival game has been out in full for some time now, but the newest 1.1 update massively improves the entire experience, with plenty to keep you busy for hours.

If you’ve stepped away from V Rising since Stunlock Studios launched the 1.0 version of its long-running survival game, now’s the perfect time to dive back in. Update 1.1, called Invaders of Oakveil, is finally here, and it’s huge, adding new mechanics, gameplay opportunities, and expanded activities. This is a truly transformative update, brimming with new ways to become a menace of the night.

From the shadows of the forest emerges a new threat, and her name is Megara the Serpent Queen. The great witch is drawing on unspeakable black magic to conquer whatever she can, with her trusty Venom Blades doing her bidding. These fiends call the new Oakveil Woodlands biome their home, transforming the tranquil forest with dark magic, poison, and curses galore. You’ll face deadly enemies and new bosses, so make sure you’re prepared.

Don’t worry about being completely outmatched, however, as update 1.1 also comes with an array of new offensive abilities. The Claws, Twinblade, and Throwing Daggers are three new weapons you can use against the forces of evil, each with their own play styles and combat strategies. Then you have seven new spells, one for each school in the game – you won’t be left defenseless, that’s for sure.

To accompany these new tools, Stunlock Studios has also done a complete combat overhaul. Stats have been reworked, gear has been rebalanced, blood types have been overhauled, and there are plenty of new customization tools. 1.1 comes with V Rising’s biggest combat adjustments so far, and enough content to help you master the changes.

When you’re tired of exploring the Oakveil Woodlands and head home to your castle, you’ll find plenty of new activities to take part in, too. You can build a custom arena in your fortress and fight in 1v1, 2v2, and 4v4 battles, with an array of rules and challenges. You can also engage in risk-free one-on-one duels out in the world, which are perfect for testing builds or dominating your opponents.

New combat opportunities aren’t all your castle is getting, either. You can now store all your goods in a treasury, house all your steeds in a stable, build an advanced sawmill, and even lock up any creature you desire to have an endless supply of blood types.

You can even engage with the fuse and reforge system, which gives all your old gear some brand-new uses. Now you can fuse weapons or jewels to make your ideal pieces of equipment, instead of finding them in the world. You can take the best stats and legendary perks from your current gear to create your very own weapon of destruction, and it’ll make exploring what 1.1 has to offer all the sweeter.
