As if there weren’t already enough quests, storylines, and explorable locations crammed into Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, it’s about to get even chunkier with its first major DLC expansion. Titled Brushes With Death, developer Warhorse Studios has just given fans a first look at the new DLC, and it’ll appeal to your artistic side. It’s also been confirmed that the expansion will arrive alongside KCD2’s next major update, 1.3, some time in May.
If you want to go into the new DLC completely blind, then consider this a light spoiler warning, because Warhorse has given an overview of what Brushes With Death will entail. Available to access pretty much immediately without the need to reach a certain point in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2’s story, Brushes With Death will see you cross paths with a mysterious, enigmatic painter called Master Voyta.
In this new storyline, you will help him find inspiration to create a masterpiece that will see him recognized as one of the greatest artists of his generation. Not much else was hinted at outside of this general premise, but as so many of the RPG’s memorable questlines have shown already, this isn’t just going to be fetching him some paint and posing for a portrait.
As well as exploring this narrative thread, Voyta is also your key to a brand new customization option in KCD 2: shield painting. This lets Henry put unique designs on his shield, letting you select the color combination, pattern, border, and symbol in the centre.
Warhorse says that symbols are unlocked by completing main story quests, visiting certain places, or speaking to certain people – if you’ve already ticked off these tasks when the DLC drops, the corresponding symbols will already be unlocked for you, so no need to go back and repeat these actions.
While no solid release date for Kingdom Come Deliverance 2’s Brushes With Death DLC was given, Warhorse says it is aiming for mid-late May.
This is also when update 1.3 will arrive for free. This update adds mounted archery and horse racing minigames, with a new quest to complete to show you the ropes. It’ll also deliver plenty of balance changes, including buffs to enemies in Kuttenberg to make this region feel much harder.
