Elden Ring Nightreign will soon arrive and put a co-op spin on arguably the best soulslike game ever, but it’s not the only multiplayer, FromSoft-style experience set to arrive this year. Mistfall Hunter is, in a nutshell, a mashup of Dark Souls and Escape From Tarkov, and the promising extraction RPG has just kicked off a new beta that’s already flying on Steam.
If you’re familiar with extraction shooters like Tarkov and Hunt Showdown, or even RPG-leaning experiences like Dark and Darker, you’ll already be pretty familiar with Mistfall Hunter’s general premise. Equip your loadout, spawn into a sprawling map filled with PvE enemies and other human players, loot up, and extract with the goods. Death results in losing all the gear you took into the run, but if you slay other players, their weapons, armor, and items are yours for the taking.
However, despite the ever-growing list of extraction experiences that are around these days, I’m struggling to think of one that offers up the heavy and challenging combat – and the dark fantasy aesthetics – of the best soulslikes. Mistfall Hunter is looking to own that niche corner of the extraction world as a third-person RPG full of satisfying melee weapons and elemental magic.
There are five classes you can choose from – Mercenary, Sorcerer, Blackarrow, Shadowstrix, and Seer – that all align themselves with different playstyles.

With developer Bellring Games looking to ramp things up ahead of launch, it’s just kicked off a new open beta. On its opening day (a day dominated by the shadow drop of the Oblivion remaster, I might add) the new beta saw a peak player count on Steam of more than 9,500 players, which is pretty impressive when you consider it’s currently supporting just two regions when it comes to servers – Korea, and US East. While this is technically an open beta, it may be worth considering those server locations if you’re thinking of signing up yourself.
The latest Mistfall Hunter beta is live right now on Steam – while no specific end date has been given, Bellring Games says it will run for “over two weeks.” The beta supports matchmaking for solo runners or for three-player squads. If you want to join and give it a go, you can do so on its Steam page here.
