2025 has already delivered us some fantastic new games. From Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds to Keep Driving, Citizen Sleeper 2, and The First Berserker: Khazan, we’ve seen a wealth of great options regardless of your tastes. Now, however, a new challenger to the throne has appeared on Steam. Topping even the mighty Split Fiction, Blue Prince currently boasts the highest average review score of any game released on PC this year, and you can play it today, with a little Steam sale discount if you’re quick.
PK delivers a storming 9/10 verdict in our Blue Prince review, hailing it as “easily one of the best puzzle games I’ve ever played.” Set in the mysterious, slightly unsettling Mount Holly manor, you play the young grandson of its former owner – the estate is yours to inherit, as long as you’re able to uncover the mansion’s secret 46th room. That might not sound too tough, but there’s a major problem; like Control’s Oldest House, the building itself shifts every day, with rooms created to your specification the moment you enter them.
That twist results in Blue Prince sharing as much in common with the best roguelikes as it does top puzzlers. Indeed, one of the most common comparisons being drawn is to the masterful space adventure Outer Wilds; the pair aren’t actually too close in execution, but the sensation of intrigue, exploration, and revelation that spurs you towards each subsequent discovery is much the same.
Much like Outer Wilds, a lot of the joy here is in unraveling the network of puzzles and the underlying mystery of the house and your family’s past in turn. As such, it’s tough to talk in too much detail about specifics. There are certainly major milestones to reach and a conclusion to be seen, but there are plenty more secrets to uncover that might well keep you engaged long past the initial credits roll.
While we’ve certainly delivered an enthusiastic verdict on Blue Prince, we’re not alone. The game’s Steam release has been met by a Metascore of 92 based on critic reviews, pushing it above Split Fiction (at 90) and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (at 89) to take the top spot for PC games launched in 2025. If that makes you curious to give it a try for yourself, there’s good news, as you’ve still got time to jump on a Steam sale that knocks a little extra off of Blue Prince’s already reasonable price point.
