Since launch, Marvel Rivals has had a huge optimization problem on PC. The hero shooter’s memory consumption can be off the charts if you aren’t running an ungodly amount of RAM, but this is something developer NetEase Games has been looking into. Now, with the impending launch of Season 2, the team has outlined an experimental feature you can use if you don’t have a spare 32 GB of RAM lying around every time you boot up the game.
The Marvel Rivals Season 2 release date is mere days away. Throughout its runtime we’re getting Emma Frost and Ultron as playable heroes, a new map, a refreshed battle pass, and a whole lot more. If you’re playing the multiplayer game on PC, however, I’d wager that one new experimental feature is even more important.
When Season 2 begins, the Switch Shader Compilation Mode will debut with it. If you’re getting sick of waiting for shaders to compile on start up, keep getting crashes, or feel you don’t have enough RAM to satiate Marvel Rivals’ hunger, this is for you.
“When activated, shaders will only compile the first time you launch the game after a new version or graphics driver update. This feature can significantly reduce memory usage and minimize in-game stuttering — Especially on systems with 16 GB of RAM or less,” NetEase Games writes.

“However, if you’re using a CPU with less threads in combination with AMD FSR3 Frame Generation, you may notice occasional additional stutters with this feature enabled.”
Keep in mind that this is an experimental feature, so it may not always work exactly as intended. With so many hardware combinations on PC there’s no telling how this will go down, but even just the prospect of reduced RAM consumption puts a smile on my face. Still, Season 2 can’t come soon enough.
