Authorities in Essex County announced the arrest of City of Orange Township Councilman Kerry Conley Jr.
Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II stated that Conley Jr. voluntarily surrendered at the City of Orange Township police headquarters on Monday, March 10.
He was subsequently held overnight at the Essex County Correctional Facility and was released on Tuesday, March 11, according to ECPO officials.
Essex County authorities said the arrest is related to an incident on October 9, 2024, in Orange, during which Conley Jr. allegedly attempted to intimidate a tow truck driver by displaying a firearm.
The driver was in the process of towing a vehicle owned by Conley Jr.’s relative, Essex County officials say.
As a condition of his release, ECPO officials said that Conley Jr. is ordered to have no contact with the victim and is prohibited from possessing any weapons.
