As he shows off the new FF14 update, game director ‘Yoshi-P’ has put to bed swirling rumors about his status on the board at Square Enix. A post noting that Yoshida had not been mentioned in the company’s yearly reports recently led to some speculation that he was no longer holding his position as a director. During the pre-show for FF14 Live Letter 86, however, he confirms that these rumors are inaccurate.
While talking to community producer Toshio Murouchi ahead of the livestream for the next FF14 patch, Yoshida discussed the topic of his board position. The comments were relayed by Discord user ‘iluna minori,’ who handles the unofficial live-translation for Japanese-language streams on the MMORPG’s Discord.
“Apparently some people are misunderstanding that Yoshi-P is no longer an executive at Square Enix and such,” iluna minori explains. “But there’s actually no change. If anything it’s just some shift in roles and so on. Yoshi-P’s position is untouched.”
“Some non-Japanese [players] even commented that ‘Yoshi-P got his wish for no longer being an executive,’” iluna minori’s post continues. “Yoshi-P laughs, because people are really making up things about him when there’s nothing of this sort. Regardless, he’s still going to do his best to deliver fun games to his audiences and he hopes for your continuous support.”
