If I were ever trying to get my dad hooked on videogames, Ground of Aces is the type of thing I’d show him. His countless hours watching WW2 documentaries, building model Spitfires, and being positively obsessed with the logistics of the conflict make me certain he’d enjoy it. For me, and all you strategy heads reading this, however, it’s got all the management, base building, and minute detail we’ve come to love on PC. Ground of Aces has a little for everyone, then, and a new demo means you can try it for free right now.
In Ground of Aces, you’re put in charge of a military airbase during WW2. This means you’ve got to build each structure wall by wall, maintain every plane, and look after the physical and mental well-being of the people who pilot them. You must balance the big picture of the base itself with the more personal stories that come with everyday life if you want to succeed.
If you want to try this for yourself, developer Blindflug Studios has just released an all-new version of the management game’s demo on Steam. This new iteration of the trial comes with improved aircraft models, a new grid-based building system, new NPC animations, a new highlighting system, balancing adjustments, tutorial texts, and even a tooltip feature.
You also have access to improved workbench management and information bubbles, which should make your time with the game even smoother. Keep in mind that your base cannot be attacked on this version of the demo, but the team is working on that for the next alpha.
With a bit of The Sims architectural design, some Cities Skylines metropolitan management, and a dash of every WW2 game out there, Ground of Aces is easy to recommend.
