New Crusader Kings 3 DLC Khans of the Steppe is set to kickstart the fourth chapter of Paradox Interactive’s finest creation. The studio’s grand strategy game lineup ranges all the way across history, from Europa Universalis 4 to Hearts of Iron 4, and even stretches across the stars as the likes of Stellaris blends the boundaries into the 4X realm. Yet CK3 feels, to me, the most definitive of its experiences to date – and now the developer unveils its next set of expansions and add-ons, beginning with a new, nomadic spin on what it means to rule.
Crusader Kings 3 chapter four is the latest season pass for one of the PC’s mightiest and most majestic grand strategy games. Paradox has a pretty good track record with expansions, although its recent Wandering Nobles DLC fell pretty dramatically short of the mark, with players slamming it for the amount of content included. The developer will be hoping to correct course with its newest offering, then, and that begins with Crowns of the World, a selection of cosmetic options including crowns, hairstyles, and beards to emphasize your regal presence.

The first major expansion pack in the season is Khans of the Steppe, which will arrive Monday April 28. Taking inspiration from the nomadic peoples of the Eurasian steppe, it brings fresh ways to play. This starts with a new ruling option, Nomadic Governments. These are designed for mobile populations, and revolve around people that regularly migrate. You’ll have to manage your dominance and ensure the obedience of your subjects.
The Great Steppe itself brings more challenges to handle. Its seasonal system faces dramatic shifts in the fertility of its lands over time, which makes the new governmental system a welcome option to seek out greener pastures as they arise. You’ll be able to take on the mantle of Great Khan and unite the region under your iron rule, with the further ability to start your campaign as Temüjin, the young Genghis Khan.
Beyond that, the Coronations event pack adds more decisions to make around the ascension of a new ruler, the challenges that presents, and the options they have at their disposal to establish their importance. Finally, we have the major expansion All Under Heaven, which will extend the CK3 map across China, Japan, and Southeast Asia. Everything in the pass is scheduled to launch by the end of 2025.
Crusader Kings 3 Khans of the Steppe will launch Monday April 28, priced at $19.99 / £16.75. You can also get it as part of the Crusader Kings 3 chapter four pack, which is available now and priced at $43.99 / £37.35. You can look through everything included with the pass right here.
