After launching onto Steam on Thursday January 30, Spider-Man 2 has already become the worst-rated PlayStation-published game on the entire platform. The PC port of The Last of Us faced technical issues at launch and its user reviews suffered as a result. Other releases such as Lego Horizon Adventures and the swiftly shuttered Concord have also been met with mixed reception. But citing various performance problems, Spider-Man 2 players have shared sufficient negative responses that the game now bears a ‘mixed’ rating and has a lower aggregate score than all of Sony’s other first-party Steam releases.

As of this writing, on Friday January 31, 1,763 user reviews have been posted for the Spider-Man 2 Steam release. 55% of those are positive – for the open-world game to get a ‘mostly positive’ rating on Valve’s platform, 70% of the aggregate reviews would have to be favorable. Primarily, players have shared their frustrations with performance. In the discussions section of Spider-Man 2’s Steam page, there are complaints about the game crashing during startup, framerate drops, and instances of artifacting during cutscenes, whereby small black rectangles will appear in place of some in-game textures.

Of all the Steam releases credited to PlayStation, including DLC, cosmetic add-ons, and other purchasable game items, the only thing currently rated lower than Spider-Man 2 is the Pistol Perk Pack for Helldivers 2. 58% of Steam reviews for Lego Horizon Adventures are positive. 66% of Concord’s reviews are positive. The Last of Us, Until Dawn, both main-series Horizon games, Days Gone, Ghost of Tsushima, the God of War series, the Uncharted Collection, and the first Spider-Man game all have higher user scores.

In terms of player count, according to SteamDB, at peak, 18,097 people played Spider-Man 2 simultaneously during the last 24 hours. That means Spider-Man 2 has already hit a higher record player count than Until Dawn, Lego Horizon Adventures, Uncharted, and the remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn.
